Our Story

Dance Academy XIV, LLC began as a one room studio opened by Miss Amanda in 2009. In 2023, Miss Amanda went back to school for her masters and realized she had new dreams she wanted to chase and watch her young boys grow up. Miss Sami took over as studio owner in Summer of 2023.

DAXIV recently moved and renovated a new 10,000 sq foot facility in the Spring of 2020. Equipped with a spacious lobby, five studio rooms, and student lobby, we strive to continue to offer the best facility and faculty possible for our students!

Meet Our Instructors & Staff

MISS SAMI

Studio Owner/Director, Beginner Dance, Acro, Performance Team, Competition Team Instructor

Sami began dancing at Kathleen Russell’s School of Dance at the age of 3 and danced there for 5 years before moving to Center Stage Dance Studio. There she danced for 6 years and came to Dance Academy XIV for 5 more years, where she graduated in 2016. She has been an assistant instructor for 8 years and has competed for 7 years. Miss Sami has a B.A in Dance and Graphic Design from Wilson College.  While at DA XIV, she performed in the Orange Bowl in Miami as well as at a 76ers Game in Philadelphia. In the summers of 2015 & 2017, she was accepted to and attended the Rockette Summer Intensive in NYC. Miss Sami has also completed up through Module 3 of the Alixa Flexibility Certification and the Acrobatic Arts Certification.

MISS COREY

Ballet, Jazz, Pointe, Modern, Dance & Play, Adult Classes, Competition Team Instructor

Corey has taught master classes at several dance studios in VA as well as at a local high school teaching ballet, pre-pointe, contemporary, tap, jazz, hip hop, acro, and improvisation techniques. Corey was delighted to launch her professional career in October of 2011 by dancing at City Center in New York, presenting Lauren Carnesi’s solo Not the Same, for The NEXT Stage Project showcase series. She performed with the ARCOS Dance Company in July 2012 at the Summer Choreography Workshop and with The Flying Lions Dance Company in August 2012 at the Mt. Gretna Music Festival. In December of 2012 she performed Lauren Carnesi’s We’re Working on It, at the Joy of Motion Dance Project Choreography Showcase. In the summer of 2013 she danced with the Espana family in Cirquesa Dreamquest. In 2012 after graduation she began teaching and fully fell in love with creating and teaching technique to the younger generation. Corey looks forward to teaching technique, injury prevention, and creating for studios. She would love to eventually have her own dance convention to share her passion and creations with more students.

MISS SAM

Tap, Jazz, Musical Theater, Competition Team Instructor

Samantha started dancing at age 11, competing at age 12 and teaching at age 15.  She started her dance training in Frederick, MD at Dance Unlimited dance studio.  Moving in 89’ to Clear Spring, MD, Samantha  started dancing/teaching at Step by Step dance Studio. In 2008, she became the principal dance instructor and dance team director. Teaching ballet, pointe, lyrical, jazz, hip hop, modern and tap.  She taught at Step by Step for the past 20 years. As the team director she received several competition Teacher Awards and was able to take her students to Disney World were they danced in the Disney Day Parade and they got to perform one of their very own production pieces. During her teaching career she received her certification through Dance Masters of America.  Was the choreographer for the Clear Spring High School Show Choir. Samantha also attended many teaching seminars held in New York City for she believes that dance is always evolving. Recently, she choreographed The Wizard of Oz for Chambersburg Community Theater, and Beauty and the Beast for a local school.

MISS AMANDA

Competition Team Instructor

Amanda has her bachelor’s and she graduated cum laude as a dual major in Dance and Religious Studies from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, VA. She also in 2007 completed a semester at Belhaven University, where she trained closely under members of Ballet Magnificat in Jackson, MS. In 2010, Amanda was accepted into Equinox Dance Company in Frederick, MD where she danced as a member of the company for one year and as a guest artist in 2012. In 2011, Amanda opened Dance Academy XIV, where over the next 12 years she grew the studio, took dancers to Disney, New York, and The Orange Bowl. In 2022, Amanda was accepted into a program for her MFA in Choreography at Wilson College and is currently teaching in higher education at multiple institutions.

MISS JENNA

Jazz, Contemporary, Competition Team Instructor

Jenna graduated from James Buchanan High School in 2008. During high school, she danced every night of the week and worked as an assistant dance instructor. Jenna performed on a winning competition team with solos, duos, trios, and group dances. She attended Slippery Rock University for two years as a dance major and then transferred to Wilson College in 2010. Jenna received her bachelors in 2012 with a dual major in dance (emphasis in choreography) and psychology.  While getting her bachelor’s, she worked with many professional dance professors such as Nola Nolen Holland, Ursula Payne, Teena Custer, Paula Kellinger, and Thom Cobb. She also took many workshops with professional dance companies such as the Trey McIntyre Project and Moving Architects.  Recently, Miss Jenna also received her MA in Dance Education from the Royal Academy of Dance. Since starting at DA XIV, Jenna has choreographed multiple high-score and overall award-winning competition dances and has obtained her certification to teach yoga.

MR. BRIAN

HipHop, Ninja, Competition Instructor

After studying martial arts for about 9 years, Brian Frazier aka Blaze of Harrisburg PA, took what he thought was a break from martial arts to explore an interest in dance. He never looked back again. Brian became enamored by the bboy culture in his hometown. It was full of dancers, talent, and potential but the scene died down with nobody to teach him and no money or opportunities. That didn’t stop Brian, he instead spent hours every day studying on YouTube with diligent training till he was noticed by Jason Reed (A Julliard Graduate) and soon after E.Moncell Durden who took him under his wings and then introduced him to the Hood Lockers who further molded him into the dance he is today. Through his perseverance, he has had the opportunity to be a Jacob’s Pillow alumnae, a member of the well-known dance company, Hood Nation, and the thought-provoking dance company, Lakaï Dance Theatre under the tutelage of McKersin Previlus. Then later joined AfroFunk in New York City, and then Rennie Harris Rhaw in Philadelphia.

MISS ANU

Bollywood, Competition Team Instructor

Anuradha is a trained Indian Classical & Bollywood dancer with roots in India. She has been dancing since the age of 5. She was a part of a Bollywood dance troop owned by a renowned choreographer in India. Anuradha has taught Bollywood dancing at several dance studios and elementary schools in the USA. Additionally Anuradha freelances by organizing Bollywood dance performances for wedding celebrations and dance workshops for birthday parties. ” Dance is a way to find yourself and lose yourself at the same time” By Peter Townsend, is her favorite quote and is what she lives by.

MR. COLE

Ballet, Ballet Partnering

Cole started dancing during his High Schools production of “Singin’ in the Rain” where he learned tap and musical theatre. After enrolling at Shippensburg University he started his classical training in Ballet with the Chambersburg Ballet Theatre where he still dances today. Cole’s primary focus is classical ballet and partnering but has also studied Tap, musical theatre, contemporary, and jazz, and has even choreographed two contemporary pieces of his own. His most notable roles are the Cavalier and Snow King in The Nutcracker, Bluebird Pas de Deux, Pas de Trois, and the second gentleman’s solo in Napoli.

MISS ALCINDA

Ballet, Pointe

Alcinda Burchill is a classically trained ballet dancer from The Chambersburg Ballet. She has been dancing for 16 years. She has had lead roles such as Cinderella, the Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, and in The Nutcracker she has been The Dewdrop Fairy, Snow Queen, and The Sugarplum Fairy. Alcinda graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in May 2021 and is starting her studies at Shippensburg University where she plans to study to become an English Teacher.

MISS KRISSY

Kickboxing, Female Empowerment, Self Defense

Krissy is a multifaceted professional dedicated to empowering individuals through self-defense, female empowerment, and holistic well-being. With over 15 years of experience, she has honed her expertise as a self-defense, female empowerment, kickboxing instructor, and personal trainer

In addition, she holds certification as a holistic health and nutrition coach, with a strong foundation in psychology, enabling her to provide comprehensive support. 

During her years of training she also worked to help survivors overcome their challenges, and she has crafted a powerful female empowerment curriculum. This comprehensive program empowers women to enhance their self-esteem, establish boundaries, and move confidently, equipping them with skills to prevent victimization.

Beyond her personal growth, Krissy‘s passion for community impact led her to establish Empowerment XIV, a non-profit organization focused on providing self-defense classes to empower individuals locally. Her journey, commitment, and diverse skill set make her a valuable asset in fostering personal growth and safety within our community. 

MR. MARLIN

Yoga

Marlin is a certified Yoga Alliance, yoga instructor (YTT200) trained in a combination style from SOL YOGA Inc., in Fredrick, MD.. He has been an arduous student since 2018 practicing many different lineage styles and deviling into the various philosophies of each to understand the reason behind the style’s practice. He offers a hybrid mixture of gentle and flow yoga to his students in the traditional mat based class or in Chair based classes. Marlin also works as a freelance yoga instructor for his own yoga company.

MISS MISTY

Desk Receptionist, Costume Coordinator

Misty grew up in a family fully entrenched in music, dance and theatre arts. In the early 90’s she served as the assistant to the director for Upbeat Unlimited of Rockville, MD as well as a lighting technician and stage director for various musicals at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville. She enrolled at Shippensburg University in 1995 where she received Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Biology with a concentration in Ecology and Environmental Biology, and later earned a Master of Science Degree in Biology with a concentration in Aquatic Ecology. Misty has worked at Shippensburg University as a manager in their IT department since 2001. In 2015 her daughter Mackenzie (Mack to all who have experienced her) began taking the beginner dance class at DA XIV and it quickly evolved from there. Misty has served as our costume mistress, fundraiser organizer and front desk receptionist. She loves all of our dancers and wants them all to feel safe and at home every time they come to our studio, whether it’s greeting them as they come in, or giving them a band aid when needed, but no running in the lobby!
